I was very nervous before the race day; I mean I was already nervous several days prior to the race.

Though I knew I should be able to run 3.1 miles, still I felt nervous just thinking about the course. In fact, I get nervous even before long-run....well. Anyhow, I could run my first race successfully.

My official time was 31:40; pace was 10:14/mile. Unexpectedly, I got a first place medal for my age group!

I arrived at Fisherman’s Wharf around 6:45. There were already many people listened to guest speakers, etc. I did a little stretch, but no time (or no guts) to do the warm-up in front of many people.

Soon we moved to the start line. I positioned third row (no particular reason) and count down started. Once I started to run, I knew I was faster than usual, but kept the pace for a while.

I didn’t want my HRM keep beeping, so I adjusted the limit a bit before the race. But it started beeping, but my mind was not so clear (don’t know why) so it didn’t bother me much. Just before reaching to Ala Moana Shopping Center, I was super thirsty.

All I could think about was H2O!!! I was too nervous and could not drink much water before I left, but it was a big mistake.

I was running only for the fist aid station, so I can get the H2O. However, once I got to the station and grabbed a cup, I could not drink smoothly. I guess I was over stressed for vigorous exercise (in my own exercise category) and didn’t know how to handle a simple task such as “drinking a cup of water.” So I stopped and took a time to drink the water. Then I was entered to Magic Island. I never knew it was slightly up-hill (trust me it’s not even “hill” but I must call it “hill” that time) and I was so much tempted to walk, since one young lady running around me was constantly repeating “run & walk.” Then I heard a Course Marshall saying “some of walkers are already appearing….,” well…that means if I walked, I, as a runner, ended up running inside bunch of walkers?!!!!!

So I kept running and somehow made to the second aid station. I noticed my shoe lace was loose, so stopped and tied. I drank water; it was nice cold, so I grabbed another one and kept running along Ala Moana Beach. My HR was 179!

I decided to slow down though I was slow (slower than other runners) already. I never had a time to enjoy view, I guess I was not thinking anything, but all I remember was few runners and their back. I didn’t make a last spurt, though I could if I wanted. My husband was waiting for me near finish line. I did a little (really “little”) stretch, and then sat down for quite a while.
After all, it was a good race for short distance run.

I wouldn’t do the same for NIKE Women’s Marathon though. I must go slower pace and drink enough water before the race.
